History of the South Shore Actiplex
The South Actiplex opened their new doors in March 2002, 13 months to the day that our old arena’s roof came down. Our new facility is complete with a Hockey Rink, Fitness Centre and Community room, our Motto is “Building Healthier Communities”. In our facility we host quite a few activities during the winter, spring, summer and fall months. During the Fall and Winter we have over 20 hockey teams playing out of our facility. Hockey is played every day of the week, weekdays 4pm until 11pm and weekends 8am until 11pm. There are numerous tournaments held here over the winter including the Early Bird, the Spud and Sweetheart Tournament. The Hockey players are from little ones all the way up to seniors. The figure skating club uses our facility during the winter on Saturday mornings along with some ringette teams and Sledge Hockey. Every Sunday we have family skates for an hour. Wednesdays we have Adult skates and on Friday a Pre-school skate.
In our community we have Englewood School Grades K-9. They come here during the winter to have school skates.
In our Fitness Centre we have close to 150 members that use our facility all year. During the week there are 9 fitness classes held for every different fitness level including a Seniors class.
Some of the Fundraisers we host now are:
PEI Colt Sale: The PEI Colt Sale committee rents our facility here in October and are quite pleased with the way everything was taken care of in our facility and in the barns out back. We worked as a team and pleased everyone. There were between 1500-2000 people around our facility and the barns over the one day sale.
Elimination Draw: This is another fundraiser the board and management put on here and we sell 270 tickets and this lets 2 people per ticket in to enjoy a meal, and a chance to win some great prizes. The community and surrounding area take part in this fun night and always have a fun time.
Crapaud Exhibition: The Crapaud Exhibition uses our facility for their exhibition and the tractor pulls during the summer. Along with numerous horse shows they put on most weekends during the summer.
5050 Goldrush: We have 9 stations set up thru Crapaud, Desable, New Haven and New Dominion. People register with a number and play that same number every week with a toonie.
Crapaud Chase the Ace: The South Shore Actiplex, Crapaud Curling Club and the Crapaud Community Hall hold a Chase the Ace on Friday nights 7:30pm-9pm.
